Country to ban pilots and flight attendants from wearing perfume onboard

India’s Office of the Director General of Civil Aviation is considering banning pilots and flight attendants from wearing perfume onboard planes for an unlikely reason

Pilots and flight attendants may soon be stopped from wearing perfume when working for an unlikely reason.

While few airlines would hesitate in firing an aviator who was caught drunk while at the joystick, regulators in India have gone further in restricting liquid use among those up in the air.

India’s Office of the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) – which oversees the country’s aviation industry – is about to update its alcohol consumption laws. In the current guidelines crew members are banned from consuming a number of items that may make them fail a breathalyser test, such as mouthwash, CNN reports.

It its later guidelines – due to be approved later this week – wearing perfume has been banned because having it on “may result into positive breath analyser test. Any crew member who is undergoing such medication shall consult the company doctor before undertaking flying assignment.”
