Coronation Street recently aired the return of Henry Newton, played by George Banks, as he got back in touch with ex Gemma Winter. Viewers may remember he had a thing for her a few years ago, while Gemma seemed glad to see the back of him.
As well as reconnecting with Gemma, Henry was also seen as a potential saviour of the Rovers Return Inn as Jenny Connor is forced to seek help and a new buyer in a bid to stop the pub being destroyed. However, after asking brewery owner Philip Newton for help, Henry’s father, Jenny was disheartened to learn they do not want the venue.
Viewers will recall that Henry also has a past with Jenny after he previously tried to scam her and Johnny into compensation after staging an “accident” in the pub’s cellar. However, Henry star George has insisted his character’s intentions, this time round, are genuine.
He told Metro: “He came close to being the landlord during his last time in the street. I think the Rovers for him, as well as for many of Corrie’s viewers, holds a special place in his heart. He has a lot of fond memories, he enjoys going to a place that his granddad Cecil loved as well.
