Coronation Street has recast a major character on the ITV soap after 11 years and fans have taken to social media to share their views on what could potentially happen
Coronation Street has recast Ruby Dobbs with actress Macy Alabi, who has played the role for the past 11 years, replaced by newcomer Billie Naylor. The Mirror understands actress Macy decided to leave the role and is starting high school this year.
Macy was one of the original actresses to play Ruby, who is the daughter of Tyrone Dobbs and stepdaughter of Fiz Brown, taking on the role in 2012, and appearing since then. She has been in the role since Ruby was born in September 2012.
One of Macy’s last scenes saw her character wave goodbye to her on-screen stepmother Fiz in May, as she headed to Norwich for a job opportunity. As for actress Billie, her arrival comes amid a new storyline for the youngster, which could see her fall out with sister Hope Stape.
On Friday’s episode, Ruby and Hope went head-to-head at the Little Big Shotz classes at the community centre, ran by barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth this summer, the classes see the kids performing for a new show. Hope was expecting to land the lead role in the summer spectacular, but she was left furious when her sister Ruby got it instead. Other youngsters including Eliza were instead picked to be Ruby’s backing singers.
