Corrie actor says show ‘won’t be the same’ as he confirms co-star’s sad exit

Coronation Street will be waving goodbye to a fan favourite in the coming months one star of the ITV soap has confirmed, as they shared their sadness over the news

Coronation Street will be losing a fan favourite in the coming months, one star of the ITV soap has revealed.

Ryan Connor actor Ryan Prescott confirmed that his co-star Chris Gascoyne was in fact leaving the ITV soap, with an exit storyline on the way. The Peter Barlow actor will bow out after more than 20 years on the soap, while Corrie has yet to officially announce the news. Actor Ryan exclusively told The Mirror that his co-star was definitely leaving, as he shared his sadness about the news.

It was reported in July that actor Chris was bowing out of the ITV soap for “an extended break”, more than 20 years after he first appeared in the role, with a source telling The Mirror that it wasn’t necessarily a permanent exit, while no return date was planned for the near-future. Speaking at The Inside Soap Awards, actor Ryan confirmed Chris’ exit and praised his pal and said the show “won’t be the same” without him.

He told us: “He’s a fantastic actor to work with, Chris is the kind of person who could have gone off and done anything and he dedicated 20 odd years to the show, so to see him go it won’t be the same show. I will miss him dearly. I will stay in touch with him but working with him every day is one of the best things about coming to work. He’s one of those guys, he’s a real actor in the sense that he is nitty gritty and he cares about his work, even after so long he cares about technique and whatever he’s working with that day. He brings stuff to soap we don’t always see.”
