Coronation Street’s Peter star ‘needs to be smart’ with career

Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter Barlow, has been given a stern warning about his career outside of the soap if he ever wants to return. After making his debut on the soap back in 2000, Chris has had some serious storylines which involved an alcohol addiction and plenty of affairs. Back in July, it was announced that Chris was saying goodbye to Weatherfield and taking an extended break. He has now been given a stern warning to be careful of what work he picks up outside of the ITV soap as it could risk his return in the future. Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo, Dom Aldworth, recently spoke to the Daily Star and explained: “Unlike more youth-facing soaps like Hollyoaks which have a fan base that follows the cast closely on social media, Coronation Street attracts an older demographic. The source added: ‘Chris Gascoyne has said this will be an extended break, so he will need to be smart about the path he takes if he wants to find long-term success outside of Coronation Street.’ When his departure was announced, a TV insider told The Sun: “Chris has decided to take an extended break from the soap. “He loves working at Coronation Street but he’s got a lot of things he wants to do and the time is right for him to take a break and pursue other roles. Stephen is set to be found out about the three murders he has committed since his return to Weatherfield. Peter recently became suspicious and told Carla to keep an eye on Stephen after he threw Peter in the mud for confessing to selling Rufus Donhaue’s (Steve Meo) watch. Will Peter flee in order to be kept from going down for a crime he didn’t commit? Or will he work with the police to take Stephen down once and for all? Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
