 Chris Gascoyne is swapping the cobbles of Coronation Street for the pantomime stage, as he embarks on a role dubbed 'the most spectacular yet'. The actor, best known for playing Peter Barlow in the soap, has been announced as Captain Hook in a new version of Peter Pan. Running across the Christmas and New Year period at The Alban Arena, the show boasts a 'star-studded' cast, as well as 'stunning sets and dazzling costumes'. Sounds exciting both for Peter fans and panto fans. Viewers have noticed a distinctly quieter time for Peter over the last year, with his major fanbase calling for a big story. Over the years, he has been central to huge plots, including recurring alcoholism, struggling to parent Simon Barlow, an on/off feud with dad Ken and a turbulent but passionate relationship with Carla Connor (Alison King). This year, he has been concerned that Carla could relapse in her struggle with mental health, after she exhibited worrying and manic behaviour. It comes amid his plot to try and take ownership of Underworld, something which hasn't gone too well for him so far. At the moment, Carla remains in the dark about being targeted and drugged, but this won't stay secret forever. Peter is bound to react explosively when the truth is exposed, which will lead to an inevitable showdown with the murderer.
