 Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) face utterly horrific homophobic abuse in tonight's (October 3) episode of Coronation Street – all because they got married. Last night, after their joyous ceremony in the Bistro, Paul revealed to Billy that a fellow vicar had agreed to marry them in a church. Due to it not legally being possible for same-sex couples to marry in a Church of England, Billy and Paul's ceremony had to be held elsewhere, but Billy's friends and family were all aware of how much he wanted to get married in a church. Billy and Paul's second, secret wedding was a success but after they left, it was revealed a polaroid picture from the event had been dropped on the floor. Billy realises the one of them exchanging rings is missing, but the mystery is then solved when the Bishop arrives with the photo in hand. Paul organised the surprise for Billy with help from Summer, Bernie and Todd (Picture: ITV) The Bishop then tells Billy that although he's broken the church rules, because of the circumstances, he is willing to turn a blind eye on this occasion. With Billy under the impression the matter has been dealt with, the Bishop returns later that day and reveals the church warden has posted on social media asking for the congregation's opinion on what's happened. Billy and Paul then sit down to read through the online comments and are appalled to see a torrent of homophobic abuse. Determined to take a stand, Billy gives a radio interview and talks passionately about his faith, how he's sorry if he's upset some people, but will never be sorry for marrying the man he loves.
