Coronation Street character returns to soap after 20 years in new The Rovers twist

Corrie welcomed back a past character who hasn’t been seen for 20 years, just days after another character made a return to the ITV soap

Coronation Street aired another character return on Monday night, days on from the comeback of a past star. A father and son duo stepped back onto the street for the first time in years in new scenes on the ITV soap.

On Friday night, fans saw a familiar face return to the cobbles and cause trouble for Gemma Winter and her husband Chesney Brown. The latest episode saw another character make their own comeback, as part of a new storyline for Jenny Connor.

It was brewery boss Phillip Newton, son of former character Cecil Newton, who made his comeback on Monday with him offered The Rovers Return pub. His son Henry Newton, the ex of Gemma, had already been seen back on the street a few days earlier.

Phillip hasn’t been on the show since 2003 it seems, when he inherited his dad Cecil’s money and brewery company following his sudden death. He has been mentioned since then, with son Henry last on the show five years ago.
