 A Russian convict who was released from prison to fight in Ukraine has been accused of committing a double murder after returning back home. Demyan Kevorkyan, who had been serving an 18-year prison sentence since 2016, has been arrested and charged with killing a young man and woman on their way home from work. He denies the allegations. Kevorkyan is one of thousands of convicts recruited from Russian prisons to join the Wagner mercenary group to serve in Ukraine. The recruitment of Kevorkyan, along with around 150 other prisoners reportedly took place on August 31, 2022, following a visit to his prison by Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin. According to a former inmate,the former convict was recently spotted in his hometown of Pridorozhnaya in the Krasnodar region of southwest Russia after returning from the battlefields in Ukraine. One of his alleged victims is 19-year-old Tatyana Mostyko, who performs as a children's entertainer in the area. 'She loved that work,' her mother Nadezhda told the BBC. 'When she came back from a job, she'd laugh about what they'd been doing, how she amused them. Her murder took place following a job on April 28th when Tatyana and her employer Kirill Chubko driving back home when their vehicle suffered from a punctured tyre. Kirill's wife Darya told local media he had contacted her during this time to inform her about the delay, and said a group of young men had kindly offered their assistance.
