Conor Gallagher has impressed for Chelsea this season and is hoping he can gatecrash Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar next month
Conor Gallagher hopes his European breakthrough with Chelsea will help him nail down an England World Cup spot.
In an impressive first Champions League start on Tuesday night, helping the Blues qualify for the knockout stage as group winners, Gallagher boosted his chances of making the cut when Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate names his 26-man squad.
Like team-mates Ben Chilwell, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and possibly Trevoh Chalobah, Gallagher could join a sizeable Chelsea contingent on England’s crusade on the Arabian gulf next month.
Asked how he was feeling about his World Cup chances, Gallagher said: “Of course it’s important, but we’ve had a lot of games for Chelsea and I haven’t thought about it that much.
