Conor Benn admits he failed two drugs tests but vows ‘innocence’

An emotional Conor Benn has admitted he failed two drugs tests, but has vowed his ‘innocence will be proven’. Benn was all set to fight arch rival Chris Eubank Jr earlier this month, however the eagerly anticipated bout was cancelled just two days before after Benn tested positive for a banned substance.Traces of the female fertility drug clomifene were found in the boxer’s urine following tests from the Anti-Doping Agency on July 25 and September 1. In the aftermath Benn has since ‘voluntarily relinquished’ his British Boxing Board of Control licence. In spite of this, the 26-year-old is determined to clear his name with him fearing he may never fight again. He told The Sun: ‘I won’t fight until this is resolved, with a foreign licence or not. Whether people believe it or not is not down to me. But there comes a stage where you harden and think, ‘Eff you, then’. ‘I don’t want to get to there but I also don’t want to keep getting hurt by this. It’s horrible dealing with this at 26 after working so hard every day. I wonder if I can ever fight again right now. JUST IN: Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva fight could be cancelled after UFC star’s ‘knockout’ claim Conor Benn is pledging his innocence (Image: GETTY)’But I cannot let them win. I could get fit enough, I could just compartmentalise, switch off and focus on the training. But I didn’t want to be the villain because I am innocent. I just want my innocence to be proven. I don’t care about the Board.’Upon first hearing about his positive test, Benn revealed he could not believe the news, insisting that he felt the initial test that brought up banned substances must have been ‘faulty’. He went on: ‘I was informed [of the first fail] and I thought, ‘It’s probably a faulty test’.’I thought, ‘We’ll get to the bottom of it’. DON’T MISSWilder manager ‘planning to reply’ to Hearn email after two offersFury told two things he needs to do to land Paul fight by trainerJoshua ‘might be thinking about retiring’ after delaying comeback  Conor Benn has relinquished his fighting licence (Image: GETTY)
