Colorado’s best ski towns

Whether you want expert slopes, vibrant nightlife, celebrity cache or family fun, you’ll find a town with a personality that matches yours

After a day gliding through perfect powder, wallowing contentedly in the Strawberry Park Hot Springs is a magnificently wholesome take on après-ski.

This grand natural hot tub is one aspect that makes Steamboat Springs in Colorado stand out from the crowd. But this is one of the joys of a Colorado ski holiday. There are dozens of mountain towns, all of which have their own unique vibes.

There’s a feel of the old West about Steamboat Springs, aided considerably by the number of shops selling leather boots and hats. Ranches still line the valley and skiers happily coexist with beef and big hats. There’s a refreshing lack of pretentiousness about it. It’s a concertedly family-friendly place, too, with childcare, ability-matched kids’ lessons and free passes for under-12s when their parents buy a five-day pass.

The range of activities is also notable at Steamboat. Non-skiers can pick between sleigh rides, snowmobiling, winter photography tours and indulging their inner cowboy on a horseback riding tour.
