It is easy to forget sometimes that Coco Gauff is only 19 years old. Unlike Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu, who in effect came out of nowhere to win the 2021 US Open as a qualifier at the age of 18, it feels as if the American world No 6 has been a part of the furniture on the tour for some time.
Ever since Gauff made her breakthrough aged 15 at Wimbledon in 2019 by reaching the last 16 after coming through qualifying, she has seemed destined to become a grand-slam champion.
