There were 1,000 cases of crime, shoplifting and anti-social behaviour in Co-op stores around the UK every day throughout the first six months of this year, the retailer has said.

Among the incidents were three cases of looting that took place at a single inner city London store within 24 hours.

The Co-op said the numbers represented an increase of more than a third from the previous year, and warned some communities could become no-go areas for their outlets.
