Clubs fall short of diversity targets, reveals FA report

The Football Association has published its annual report on the Football Leadership Diversity Code for the 2021-22 season and the uptake from clubs has been disappointing in appointing BAME candidates to senior management positions and coaching roles in the men’s game, as well as a decrease in female coaches hired in women’s football.

The chair of Kick It Out, Sanjay Bhandari, says there is “plenty of room for improvement in…senior leadership and the recruitment of female coaches”. He urges football to reflect on the situation collectively which “will enable us to increase the pace of change”.

In terms of senior leadership, the clubs pledged that “15 per cent of our new hires will be Black, Asian or of Mixed Heritage” but averaged only 10.3 per
