 Clive Myrie has opened up about reporting on some painful and emotional news coverage. The BBC presenter, 59, has recently fronted difficult topics during 10 o'clock news coverage, most notably gaining recognition from his live reporting in Ukraine. Myrie spent days in the war-torn country in the early part of 2022, where he was seen visibly emotional during a live report on the day that Russia invaded its neighbouring country. He later recalled the situation as 'an emotional day' as he foresaw what would be 'a horrible, horrible war'. While he garnered the support of viewers across the nation, Myrie was also honoured with a special prize at the 2022 Tric Awards. He's since covered difficult topics from within the news room, including addressing the Huw Edwards scandal, after he was revealed to be the suspended presenter at the centre of allegations. In a new interview, Myrie has spoken about the emotional toll of his work. He told The Times: 'Every now and again, usually triggered by an extreme example of pain and suffering that I witness on the TV or in a film, or while reporting, I will get intensely emotional and it lasts for a few seconds. The publication notes that the MasterMind host doesn't think he suffers from PTSD, despite covering Ukraine on the ground and reporting on the pandemic from hospital wards. Elsewhere in the interview, Myrie spoke about BBC presenters remaining politically neutral. Fellow BBC presenter Fiona Bruce has previously addressed holding back from expressing her political opinions 'to friends and family' to avoid any speculation about her 'bias'.
