The only way in and out of the sleepy town is a single-lane tunnel that is more than two miles long and cars can only drive in either direction once an hour. The tunnel remains closed at night so the town, which has been dubbed "The weirdest city in Alaska," is completely off the grid until the next morning. Dave Dickerson and his wife Anna told CBS Sunday Morning: "People think it's weird." "If I had one word, I would say it's magical," Anna said. She added: "I feel like it's made us better people. Because it doesn't matter where you came from, how much money you have, you know, we're all just here in this town trying to make it work." The city has a school located directly behind the tower, connected by an underground tunnel. The city's teacher Erika Thompson previously told Far Out magazine: "I think what people don't realise is that it's just like an apartment building. "Or it's just like a high-rise condo in a large city. So, for me, it's not that strange. "That's where I grew up—I grew up in a big city everybody lived in an apartment building… but not the entire town."
