We are sitting at the back of the Brassica restaurant in the opulent Waldorf Astoria in Atlanta, Georgia, a marble table-top under our elbows. The music is gentle, but I find myself leaning further and further forward to listen: Christopher Nkunku is the one talking, about life at Chelsea and those changes over the past year, but the man for whom so much noise has been made hardly hits more than a whisper. His words carry weight, though.
“The season of Chelsea last year wasn’t good, everybody knows this,” Nkunku says. “This year is a new project, new year, new season. I am the new project and I am happy to be here.”
