China behaving ‘like a terrorist state’, says new chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee

Alicia Kearns says the UK is in a form of warfare with China and is calling on the government to denounce all forms of authoritarianism

China is behaving like a terrorist state and is already in a form of war with the UK, the new chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee has said.

“We have focused on terrorists that behave like states rather than states behaving like terrorists,” Alicia Kearns told the Telegraph’s How to Become a Dictator podcast. “The reality is, whether we like it or not, we are in a form of warfare with China.”

She added: “What we have not done … is built resilience within our system.”

On Thursday, Ms Kearns sent a letter to James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary, pressing the Government to respond forcefully after Chinese diplomats were involved in assaulting a pro-democracy Hong Kong protester at its consulate in Manchester last month.
