Chelsea transfer news: Romelu Lukaku told youngster to reconsider Blues move

Chelsea transfer news: Romelu Lukaku gave early career advice to Jeremy Doku Romelu Lukaku played a big part in Chelsea missing out on the signing of Jeremy Doku earlier in his career. Anderlecht academy boss Jean Kindermans has revealed that the striker personally advised the winger to stay put and reject interest from the likes of the Blues. Like Lukaku, Doku came through the ranks at Anderlecht. Lukaku is the oldest of the two by nine years so their paths initially did not cross. However, he has since had an impact on his career path. When Doku was just 15, he received interest from top clubs in Europe. Chelsea were one of them and Anderlecht were finding it hard to keep hold of their best talent. But that is where Lukaku stepped in. Chelsea transfer news: Jeremy Doku joined Man City in the summer Kindermans says that Lukaku sent a video to Doku and his family, advising them to continue at Anderlecht instead of taking an offer from elsewhere. Doku went on to make his senior debut a year later at the age of 16 and made 37 appearances for the Belgian club before joining Rennes in 2020. Kindermans told last weekend’s edition of the Sunday Mirror: “I remember taking Romelu into my office about the problem of getting young players to commit to us – Doku in particular. Romelu replied, ‘Come on, pass your phone to me, I’m going to call him’. “But I didn’t want to do that because a phone call gets quickly forgotten. So, instead, I got Romelu to convince Jeremy to stay. I still have the video on my phone. “On it, you can hear Romelu giving advice to the Doku family, saying ‘Hey, guys, stay with Anderlecht for a while, you’re good’ and so on.” SUBSCRIBE Invalid email We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
