Chelsea sweating on contract agreement with Mount see as ‘priority’

Chelsea have been speaking with midfielder Mason Mount over a new contract for ‘a long time’ amid speculation over the England star’s future, according to reports. Mount has just 18 months remaining on his deal with the Blues. The 23-year-old’s future is considered a ‘priority’ by Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly. The Premier League club have apparently spent a long time trying to agree terms. There is no suggestion that Mount or his representatives are stalling during discussions. However, the Cobham graduate has been loosely linked with a move to Liverpool over the last year. A new contract remains under discussion but is not yet finalised. It is widely expected that Mount will pen an extension, despite criticism of his form this season from fans. JUST IN: Man City boss Pep Guardiola to use World Cup break to consider future Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly wants Mason Mount to sign a contract extension (Image: GETTY IMAGES)That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has offered an update on Mount’s future. ‘Despite some speculation doing the rounds, I’m told there have been talks ongoing for a long time between Mason Mount and Chelsea,’ Romano explained in his Caught Offside column.’It’s still not done but it’s under discussion, and for Chelsea it’s seen as an important priority to extend Mount’s deal.’I know some fans are focusing on him during this run of poor form, but I think they should keep Mount as he’s a big player for them, and still young with the potential to improve.’Mount will likely play a key role for England at the World Cup in Qatar.
