Chelsea star Thiago Silva has taken transfer matters into his own hands by insisting his club should sign Paulo Dybala. The Roma striker has been linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge in recent days, despite only moving to the Italian capital a year ago. Dybala enjoyed an incredible maiden campaign at the Stadio Olimpico as he bagged 18 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances following his arrival from Juventus. Corriere dello Sport have reported that the Blues want to snap the 29-year-old up before the start of the new campaign as manager Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of him. Dybala is said to have a £10million release clause in the contract he signed last summer. And Silva, who bumped into Dybala at Silverstone ahead of Sunday’s British Grand Prix, made his views on the striker clear after being asked about him during an interview with Sky Sports . ‘I saw him inside the paddock,’ Silva said as he spoke about Dybala. ‘Normally he and I speak in Spanish or Portuguese, I was pleased to see him here because I read news that maybe he comes to Chelsea. If it comes? I don’t know, I asked him but he didn’t want to tell me. I would like to have him at Chelsea, he is a champion. It would help a lot if it were to come.’ Chelsea star Thiago Silva has insisted his club should sign Paulo Dybala (Image: SKY SPORTS) Chelsea struggled in front of goal last season and only managed to find the back of the net a measly 38 times in the Premier League as they won just 11 matches and ended the campaign in 12th place. The west London giants have since acquired the services of RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku and Villarreal winger Nicolas Jackson as they look to put the misery of last season behind them. Chelsea have signed a whole host of new players since Todd Boehly bought the club from Roman Abramovich at the end of last May. But they have also been forced to offload a string of stars this summer as they look to balance the books to ensure they don’t fall foul of Financial Fair Play regulations. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed a deal with AC Milan, while N’Golo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta have moved on after coming to the end of their contracts. Pochettino will be keen to bring in players who can make an impact on his team and help them become a competitive force in the Premier League once again. And on Saturday, Roma boss Jose Mourinho was unable to rule out a departure for Dybala as he told reporters at Rome airport: ‘I don’t know anything about his contract. But obviously I talk to Paulo like I do with all of my players.’
