Chelsea news: Mauricio Pochettino holds Levi Colwill talks and dodges Mount question

Mason Mount’s message to Chelsea supporters Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he has spoken to Levi Colwill to introduce himself and expects the defender to travel with the club for their pre-season tour of the USA. The Argentinian boss made his first appearance in front of the media after taking charge of the west London club and whihe was happy to speak about their transfer plans for the coming weeks, the ex-Tottenham manager was tight-lipped on the reasons behind Mason Mount’s exit. The 51-year-old took charge of the club officially from July 1 and began work on the training ground with his players on Tuesday as they returned from holiday ahead of pre-season. The senior squad has been cut from 33 players to 25 after several departures, with Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic among the high-profile names to depart. Colwill has been linked with a move to Brighton after a successful loan spell, with interest from Liverpool also creating a difficult situation for Chelsea. The Blues are determined to hang onto their defender after turning down an offer of £30million, and Pochettino has revealed he spoke to the 21-year-old – currently at the Under-21 European Championships – on the phone. Mauricio Pochettino: The Chelsea head coach spoke to the media for the first time. “We spoke yesterday with Levi and Noni. One player I know, Noni with Tottenham and Levi I don’t know but introduced myself and wished them the best for Spain vs England,” Pochettino told reporters. “I wish them the best and we are waiting for them to be with the team. I think they will join us in America [for pre-season].” Pochettino offered no assurances on his future, nor did he offer a look into Chelsea’s plans to sign Moises Caicedo or Dusan Vlahovic. But the former PSG boss opened up on how he expects to work with co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.
