Chelsea may have second chance to sign target as Pavard ‘frustrated’

Chelsea could be back in for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard either in January or next summer, as the Frenchman is reportedly frustrated at the Bundesliga club. The Blues held an interest in the 2018 World Cup winner as then-boss Thomas Tuchel was in urgent need of defensive reinforcements, but co-owner and acting sporting director Todd Boehly decided to invest in other options.Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana were signed in the summer as part of a £200million overhaul, though the transfers have not particularly hit the ground running as they would have liked. The Frenchman was signed in a £75m deal from Leicester but picked up a long-term injury that has ruled him out of action until after the World Cup while Koulibaly and Cucurella have been in and out of the team under Graham Potter. As Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso left Stamford Bridge in the transfer window there were voids to be filled, and Pavard was one name mentioned. The move did not materialise, but there is a chance it could be resurrected as German outlet Sport1 claim that the France defender has grown frustrated with the lack of opportunities he has been given by boss Julian Nagelsmann as a centre-back.READ MORE: Chelsea could rob 3 players from Brighton for Potter reunion Chelsea could be set to back Graham Potter with a new defender. Bild reported in the summer that the defender would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge if an offer was tabled. After the transfer window closed, Pavard admitted that he doubted himself after making the decision to stay at Bayern Munich and would not rule out a potential transfer in the future. ‘I questioned myself, I had calls from different clubs with my agent,” Pavard told Telefoot. “Afterwards, I had the Bayern coach with whom we spoke and with whom we have a good relationship.DON’T MISSChelsea boss Potter could be denied first signing by Russia warLiverpool told Chelsea target Rice ‘fits the mould’ at AnfieldChelsea chief Boehly could have plan ruined by Man Utd duo Chelsea target Benjamin Pavard has been frustrated at Bayern Munich.
