Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino warned he has already made costly Nicolas Jackson mistake

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has been warned he missed a golden opportunity to get Nicolas Jackson off the mark. Enzo Fernandez took penalty duty against West Ham on Sunday but Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes that was the wrong decision. Chelsea were given the chance to take a 2-1 lead at the London Stadium on Sunday when they were awarded a spot-kick. Fernandez took the ball and saw his tame effort saved by Alphonse Areola. However, he is yet to register his first goal in a competitive match. Jackson passed up a couple of opportunities against both Liverpool and West Ham. Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal earlier this summer for a fee of £32million. The Senegal star has impressed in his opening two matches for the club, showcasing his ability to run in behind and trouble opposition defenders. Former Blues striker Hasselbaink says he would have preferred to see Jackson be given the responsibility, noting the importance for a new striker to get up and running. He told talkSPORT: “[Christopher] Nkunku being out [means] there’s a lot of creativity missing for the strikers. “Also now [Carney] Chukwuemeka being out [means] there’s a lot of creativity [missing and] hopefully his injury is not that bad. I would have loved to have seen Jackson take the penalty to be honest because if he scores, that would give him a little bit of confidence and he would be off the mark.” Hasselbaink has been impressed by what he has seen of Jackson and is confident he will adapt to the Premier League. He added: “I’ve liked what I’ve seen. He led the line really well against Liverpool, he was a handful against West Ham. “He just needs a little bit of help, but that also just takes time to get to know your teammates and for your teammates to know you. The Premier League is not an easy league. It’s the hardest league [and] it’s the best league. He’ll be fine.”
