Charles’ unyielding first year

Today is not only the first anniversary of the death of the beloved late Queen, it also marks exactly a year since King Charles succeeded his mother and came to the throne – and the first 12 months of his reign have certainly been filled with drama

After 70 years of extraordinary service, it was exactly a year ago today that the late Queen died peacefully at her beloved Balmoral home. Immediately after her passing, her eldest son Charles became King after being the longest heir to the throne in history – meaning today also marks the first anniversary of his accession.

After his mother’s near faultless reign, Charles was always going to have big shoes to fill when he rose to the top job. And it’s fair to say, it has not always been an easy 12 months as monarch for the King with drama never too far away from him or the wider Royal Family….

One of the most pressing family issues that Charles has had to deal with during his first year as King is that of his son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle.

After the late Queen’s death a year ago, many hoped it would prove to be the catalyst in repairing the relationship between the Sussexes and the King as well as Prince William. However, this has certainly not been the case.
