KING Charles has celebrated his first birthday as reigning monarch by taking on a touching new role.
The monarch, who turned 74 today, has officially become The Ranger of Windsor Great Park, seventy years after his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was appointed to the post.
His Majesty will have his special day marked with a Changing of the Guard honour and special gun salutes.
On his birthday, there are no public engagements planned and the King is expected to mark the day privately.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have already wished His Majesty a happy birthday, with the Royals sending him a heartfelt message.
