Charles Martinet is no longer the voice of Mario – Chris Pratt to take over?

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, the voice of Mario for the past 30 odd years is retiring from the role to become a Mario ambassador.

It’s officially the end of an era. Charles Martinet, the man who’s been voicing Super Mario since 1994, is confirmed to be stepping down from the role.

That said, he already has a new position within Nintendo. The announcement states that Martinet will continue to work for the company as a Mario ambassador.

‘With this transition, he will be stepping back from recording character voices for our games, but he’ll continue to travel the world sharing the joy of Mario and interacting with you all,’ reads Nintendo’s statement.

As many fans are aware, Mario wasn’t the only character Martinet was responsible for. Throughout the franchise, he’s voiced Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi, as well as the baby counterparts.
