CBI ‘faces cash crisis’ as merger with Make UK stalls

A merger between the CBI and Make UK was given added urgency last night after reports that the business lobby group is facing a cash crunch.

A tie-up between two of Britain’s biggest business groups has been frozen by a delay in securing insurance for an existing pension scheme, according to the Financial Times. However, the CBI could be weeks away from running out of cash over uncertainty about membership renewals, Sky News reported.

Talks between the CBI and Make UK over a consolidation have been drawn out for months and were thought to be nearing a conclusion until the pensions delay.
