Fresh from his semi-final defeat at the US Open, tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz attended a bullfighting event in Spain and has been met with almighty backlash
Carlos Alcaraz has been called out by animal rights group PETA for attending a bullfighting event following the US Open.
After failing to defend his title in New York, the 20-year-old wasted no time heading back to his native Spain. He decided to visit the Plaza de Toros de La Condomina on Monday to watch the event and met some local fans as well as bullfighter Alejandro Talavante.
But the Spaniard’s appearance has drawn ire from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who claim the sport is âtorture’ and pleaded with the Wimbledon champion to stop supporting endorsing the action. “Tennis is a sport; animal abuse is NOT @CarlosAlcaraz! STOP supporting bullfighting!” they wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“CARLOS ALCARAZ, BULLFIGHTING IS TORTURE, NOT CULTURE. There’s nothing entertaining about the stabbing & torturing of animals-& the majority of young people in Spain reject bullfighting as the bloodsport it is. Please don’t support bullfighting and pledge to never attend another fight again.”
