 Fans are expecting Capcom to announce a new Monster Hunter soon, while Resident Evil 9 is rumoured to arrive in 2025. Between the Resident Evil 4 remake and Street Fighter 6, 2023 has been a very good year for Capcom. Even Exoprimal is doing better than expected, breaking 1 million players just a week after launch, thanks to Xbox Game Pass. In fact, altogether Capcom has sold more than 13.5 million games in the first quarter (April to June) of the current fiscal year, compared to the 11.7 million games it sold during the same period last year. Capcom expects that number to shoot up by March 2024, as it boasts it has an unannounced project in the works that it says will sell millions. This is via Bloomberg's Takashi Mochizuki and, given the bravado, any such game would have to belong to one of Capcom's biggest franchises. So it's probably not Power Stone 3. This handily narrows it down to either Monster Hunter or Resident Evil, which have respectively pushed 92 million and 142 million units across their entire lifespans. A new Monster Hunter seems the most likely, considering the last mainline entry, Monster Hunter Rise, is now over two years old and there was just a three-year gap between it and its predecessor, Monster Hunter World. Not to mention Monster Hunter Rise had its final digital event last month and recently added the final event quests, strongly suggesting that support for it is winding down in favour of a newer title. Whether the next entry will be dubbed Monster Hunter: World 2 is anyone's guess, but it wouldn't be surprising if it will be a dedicated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S game to take full advantage of the more powerful hardware. As for Capcom's current sales, a breakdown by TweakTown states that its 13.5 million sales set a new record and is the most the publisher's made in any quarter for the last seven years.
