Q My neighbours take advantage of Halloween and bonfire night to let off fireworks whenever they want. It sends my dogs potty. What can I do?
A Despite many laws governing possession and use of fireworks, you probably can’t stop your neighbours having the occasional home display – provided that it poses no risk to you and your home.
Regulation 4 of the Fireworks Regulations 2004 says certain non-powerful fireworks can be set off on private property between 7am and 11pm. This curfew extends to midnight on Bonfire Night and 1am on New Year’s Eve, Chinese New Year and Diwali. Breaching these rules is a criminal offence and police can prosecute. There are no specific restrictions in England or Wales about when bonfires are allowed.
