 A businessman suspected of being involved in a money laundering ring has been jailed for targeting police lawyers with fake bombs. Jonathan Nuttall, 50, used his personal chauffeur to recruit a former marine, Michael Broddle to spy on two lawyers for the National Crime Agency (NCA), Andrew Sutcliffe KC and Anne Jeavons. He orchestrated a plot in which Broddle planted devices in London's legal district with Mr Sutcliffe's name marked on them in 2021, a court heard. One was left by a bench, and the other outside the offices where Mr Sutcliffe and Ms Jeavons work. The first, which was found by a porter, was found to be 'potentially viable' as a bomb as it contained a smoke grenade. The second was non-viable but a smoke grenade was set off with it so as to cause 'maximum alarm'. The lawyers acted for the NCA while it pursued him at the High Court in a bid to seize £1.4 million of assets. Nuttall was said to be furious at the prospect of the NCA seizing his stately home (Picture: PA) A court previously heard that a settlement without any admissions was agreed in 2019 for his wife Amanda to pay £1.4 million to the NCA. She took a loan to cover the settlement but the NCA refused to the accept the cash over concerns it may have derived from illegal means. The agency therefore looked into repossessing Nuttall's stately home in Hampshire, Embley Manor. Sentencing Nuttall to eight years and two months' jail, Simon Mayo KC, said: 'In my judgment this was a malicious, bold and extremely serious attack on those involved in the administration of justice.
