Pet owners may receive fines of up to £5,000 if they bury their beloved cat or dog in their garden, an green-fingered expert has warned.

The rule is among a list of five, little-known laws around gardening which could incur huge penalties if broken.

The others include limits around the heights of hedges and fences which, if too tall, could become unsafe.

Angela Slater, expert at Hayes Garden World, has offered tips to help Brits avoid breaking these rules as they look to continue to spruce up their patches this summer.
