Burberry, the veteran British brand, has been accused of copying a design by Patrick Cox, the shoe producer.
Cox, whose fashionable footwear was worn by Britpop stars and clubland ravers in the Nineties, has claimed that Burberry’s new navy patent heeled loafer looks very much like his cult leather shoe, the Wannabe.
Burberry’s slip-on has a similar crinkly, shiny exterior, a tubular moccasin shape and an open “peeper” zip over the bridge.
A social media post showcasing the shoes has received thousands of comments from Cox’s fans, pointing out the similarities and calling on Burberry to credit the Wannabe design. Cox told The Times: “I’ve been copied a thousand times – that’s fashion.
