Bukayo Saka adds to Arsenal injury woes as Mikel Arteta confirms spell on sidelines

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka suffered an injury during Sunday’s North London Derby, with manager Mikel Arteta now dealing with a growing list of unavailable players

Mikel Arteta says that Bukayo Saka could miss Arsenal’s Carabao Cup clash with Brentford on Wednesday as well as Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth.

Saka limped off during the latter stages of Arsenal’s thrilling 2-2 draw with arch rivals Tottenham on Sunday in the North London Derby. In his press conference on Tuesday, Arteta was asked to provide an update and told reporters: “He was limping quite badly after the match. We had to get him off the field. He hasn’t been able to participate in the session. It’s a possibility (he could miss the Bournemouth game).”

Arsenal firstly face Brentford away from home this Wednesday, with Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey also unavailable. £105million signing Declan Rice – who like Saka came off against Spurs – will join them on the sidelines, as Arteta added: “Declan hasn’t trained yet. Obviously he could not carry on in the game, he wasn’t comfortable at all.

“Hopefully it’s not something big. We are confident. He’s still uncomfortable, obviously he had to leave the pitch and that’s never a good sign for a player like him, but hopefully he will progress in the next few days. It’s a tough one.”
