 October 31, 2022 The milestone achievement follows the release of Jin's debut solo single The Astronaut. Co-written with Coldplay, Jin, 29, joined the band on stage last week during their concert in Buenos Aires to mark the song's debut live performances. Following the single's promotion, Jin will become the first member of BTS to enlist for mandatory South Korean military service for approximately two years, as announced by Big Hit Music. The septet will reconvene in 2025 once every member has fulfilled their duties. All able-bodied men in South Korea are required to perform between 18 and 21 months of military service after their 18th birthday and by 28 at the latest. However, exemptions have been made in the past for prize-winning athletes, dancers, and classical musicians who have been seen as boosting the country's profile internationally. In 2020, South Korea's parliament passed a bill to allow its K-pop stars to delay their national service until the age of 30. Got a story? BTS has made history with the most number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 this decade.
The South Korean boyband beat out a star-studded array of artists for the top title with a total of six chart-topping hits.
In comparison, Drake came in on the list with five hits, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift hold four number one singles each, and Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj have three each.
The band – made up of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – first entered the Hot 100 in 2020 with Jason Derulo on a remix of Savage Love.
