British man fighting in Ukraine found dead in water with hands bound behind back

Jordan Chadwick, 31, from Burnley in Lancashire, went to join the International Legion in Ukraine to “support freedom” and “assist others” in early October 2022

A British soldier who went to fight in Ukraine has been found with his hands bound behind his back in a body of water.

Jordan Chadwick, 31, from Burnley in Lancashire, served as a Scots guard in the British Army from 2011 to 2015 before joining the International Legion in Ukraine after Vladimir Putin launched his illegal invasion. Brenda Chadwick, Jordan’s mum, says her family was “devastated” after her son – who was known as Joe – was killed.

Ukraine organised the repatriation of his body on August 7 and a UK inquest is set for February. Speaking with the BBC, Mrs Chadwick said her boy had always wanted to be a soldier. She said: “His passion to support freedom and assist others with his skills led him to leave the UK and travel to the Ukraine in early October 2022.”

Then on June 26, Mrs Chadwick was informed by Lancashire Police that her son was dead. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) also contacted her to deliver news of the tragedy.
