 A former rapper from the UK who was once believed to be ISIS killer 'Jihadi' John has been found dead in a police cell. Abdel-Majed Abdel Barry, 32, was tried at a court in Madrid, Spain, earlier this month on suspicion of heading an itinerant jihadist cell he allegedly formed after leaving Syria, and was awaiting the verdict. He was understood to have been found dead at a prison in El Puerto de Santa Maria in Cadiz, Spain, and his body had no signs of violence inflicted according to one report. Prison guards are said to have discovered his lifeless body after he failed to answer a wake-up call. An internal Spanish Prison service investigation is set to take place and his family will be given the right to hold their own autopsy. The court in El Puerto de Santa Maria will also carry out a separate probe. He was arrested alongside two other men who were smuggled onto a beach in south-east Spain in April 2020. Abdel Barry was born in Egypt but stripped of his British citizenship when it was believed he had joined ISIS. It is said he was arrested after police identified him by his ears when he opened a second-floor door to receive a kebab takeout from an Uber Eats kebab delivery man. A Spanish National Police spokesperson said at the time of Abdel Barry's detention: 'National Police officers have developed a counter-terrorism operation which has culminated in the arrest in Almeria of one of the most wanted Daesh Foreign Terrorist Fighters in Europe. 'Another two people have been arrested and the authorities are currently working to establish their identity and their relationship with the other man.'
