Brit, 19, dies on Ibiza beach as sister makes desperate bid to save his life

Jude Harvey, 19, from Essex died after suffering a ‘heart episode’ on stepping into the sea in Ibiza during a holiday in July with his step-sister, an inquest heard on Wednesday

A 19-year-old Brit suffered three cardiac arrests on a Ibiza as his step-sister tried to save him, an inquest heard.

Jude Harvey had gone to the Spanish island for a holiday when the tragedy struck last month. The teenager suffered a ‘heart episode’ when he entered the sea. His sibling found him unresponsive in the water and pulled him out, starting CPR.

Jude, from Southend, Essex, was taken to Can Misses Hospital on the island before being declared dead on July 23 after spending two days in intensive care during which time he was not responsive due to a “lack of oxygen to the brain”. His family told how he was a “strong swimmer” who did not drink or take drugs. Pathologists in Ibiza gave a cause of death as tissue anoxia and suffocation by submersion.

Coroner Michelle Brown told Essex Coroners Court today: “Mr Harvey was 19 and on holiday with his step-sister, he entered the sea and it was shallow waters. His step-sister did not hear him and turned around and saw him unresponsive in the water. She pulled him out and started CPR. He had three cardiac arrests on the beach.
