British financier Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, the Queen’s trusted financial adviser, has died at the age of 91.

Sir Evelyn died “peacefully at home”, his family said in a statement this morning.

He was widely recognised as one of the leading philanthropists and financiers of his generation.

In 1989, he was knighted by the Queen for services to banking and finance. He was also a chairman of The Economist.
