The Selecao threw everything at their opponents as they sought a late winner but could not find a breakthrough, with a goalless draw sealing Jamaica's progress to the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time. When the full-time whistle was blown Brazil still had a faint hope of progressing but it would have required Panama to come back from 5-3 down against France late on to win in – something which did not happen.
