An ex- policeman has been convicted of second-degree murder over the death of his eight-year-old son who was made to sleep on the concrete floor of a freezing garage overnight.
Michael Valva, a former New York cop, was found guilty of four counts of child endangerment and faces a maximum potential sentence of 25 years to life.
Temperatures dropped to -6C while eight-year-old Thomas Valva was forced to sleep in the garage of the family’s Long Island home, and he died the day after in January, 2020.
Friday’s verdict came on the first day of deliberations after a month’s worth of testimony.
