Bonfire Night washout as heavy rain and winds hit

Guy Fawkes Night events could be a wash out – especially in the south – as heavy rains and blustery showers take hold across most of the country all day and into the evening.

A weather warning for heavy rain has been issued by the Met Office as with fears some areas could be impacted by flooding.

Persistant rain is set to lash the UK today as many head outside to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night with their families and friends.

The traditional Bonfire Night celebrations, which will often see firework displays and large scale bonfires often with guys thrown on them, dates back to 1605 when the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament failed.

But today’s November 5 events could be a wash out – especially in the south – as heavy rains and blustery showers take hold across most of the country all day and into the evening.
