Body found after missing man ‘fell into river’ after massive brawl

Formal identification has yet to take place – but the man is thought to be Sean Day (Image: SWNS) Police have recovered a body from a river in the search for a missing man who disappeared two weeks ago after three people were arrested on suspicion of his murder. Sean Day, 29, fell down an embankment and into the water following an ‘altercation’ near the River Wye in Hereford on July 29. Specialist search teams have been scouring the river ever since and police revealed a body, believed to be that of Sean, was discovered yesterday evening. A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “A recovery operation is now underway and a large police presence is expected to be in the area for some time. “Formal identification is yet to take place, however Sean’s family have been informed. The men, aged 34, 28 and 24, were detained when new information came to light Mr Day had been involved in an altercation near Victoria Bridge. Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the Quay Street/Castle Green area of Hereford between the hours of 10.30pm on July 28 and 12.30am on July 29. They have asked anyone who may have ‘seen or heard a disturbance or person in distress’ near to the riverside to get in contact. Detective Inspector Mark Walters said previously: ”As our enquiries continue, we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area late on Friday night and shortly after midnight on Saturday morning. “In particular anyone who may have witnessed or heard a disturbance near to the riverbank”.
