If it is possible to avoid heading down them, particularly during the peak hours, then there's a decent chance you'll avoid the worst of the jams. Saturday is predicted to be the busiest on the roads in terms of leisure trips, with 3.1million people due to head on holiday via the roads across the day, compared to 2.2million and 2.4million on Friday and Sunday respectively. Friday may prove to be the most difficult to navigate however, as many commuters will still be heading to and from work. Travelling in the morning before 10am on the weekend days, or after 7pm, is your best bet of avoiding the jams, according to the RAC. Separate research by the RAC suggests that July and August will see 26% of the total driving population using their cars to go on holiday in the UK. The West Country by far the most popular destination with 28% of those going on holiday in the UK planning on staying in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset or Somerset, meaning traffic is likely to be worst there.
