Best times to travel this weekend with 13million hitting roads as summer holidays begin

An estimated additional 4.8m journeys will be taken on Britain’s roads at some point between Friday and the end of Sunday as schools break up for the summer holidays

Britain’s roads are forecast to be clogged up this weekend as millions of Brits hit the road as schools break up.

An estimated additional 4.8m journeys will be taken on Britain’s roads at some point between Friday and the end of Sunday, with many heading on their summer holidays.

While overall trips are down compared to last year, the total anticipated number of getaway journeys over the whole weekend, including Friday, is above the pre-pandemic average, suggesting many families are holidaying in the UK rather than venturing abroad.

Although it is not always possible to avoid traffic jams depending on your route, the RAC has listed some of the spots most likely to get snarled up this week and weekend.
