Beano anniversary portrait of King Charles reflects a cause close to his heart

The comic features the monarch and Queen Camilla visiting Beanotown, as well as a slew of celebrities chosen by young readers

King Charles will appear dressed in Beano dressed in rags as the comic nods to his love of recycled clothing.

The environmentally conscious King has been known for retaining old clothes rather than throwing them away and has been pictured posing in a decades-old tweed jacket.

Charles appears dressed in tattered rags in the 85th-anniversary edition of The Beano, which features the monarch and Queen Camilla visiting Beanotown.

A spokesman for the comic explained the rough and ready appearance of the king, saying: “The King has previously revealed how his favourite waxed jacket is lovingly refurbished, with a multitude of patches, and we’ve featured it here with a similar outfit imagined for the Queen.
