BBC postpone Celebrity Race Across The World’s launch days before programme is set to air

The BBC have confirmed new reality series Celebrity Race Across The World has been postponed due to the devastating earthquake in Morocco, where the show begins

Hotly anticipated TV show Celebrity Race Across The World has been cancelled by the BBC hours before it was due to air.

The new series was supposed to debut on BBC One at 9pm on Wednesday September 13 and stars broadcaster Alex Beresford and his dad Noel, singer Mel Blatt and her mum Helene, McFly drummer Harry Judd and his mum Emma and British Racing Driver and pundit Billy Monger and his sister Bonny.

Despite the show being filmed at the end of last year, it has now disappeared from this week’s TV listings. The reality show, which sees celebrities travel more than 10,000km across 24 countries, has been postponed, but as yet no new date has been scheduled. The devastating earthquake in Morocco, which struck the city of Marrakesh on Friday and has so far killed over 2,000 people, is the reason for the postponement, as the series begins in the area.

A BBC spokesperson told the Mirror: “In light of the earthquake in Morocco we have taken the decision to postpone the first episode of Celebrity Race Across the World, which was filmed in Marrakesh. We’ll update on new schedule details shortly.”
