Laura Kuenssberg is thought to be the frontrunner to present the BBC’s election night coverage after the suspension of Huw Edwards.
Edwards, 62, the main presenter for the December 2019 election, was taken off the air after he was alleged by The Sun to have paid a young person for sexually explicit images.
The BBC’s highest-paid newsreader is believed to be receiving his full £435,000-a-year salary while an internal inquiry is under way. Two police forces concluded that Edwards had no criminal case to answer.
