Barcelona’s stance on signing Wilfred Zaha as La Liga giants ‘offered’ transfer

Wilfried Zaha will be a free agent next summer and Crystal Palace are facing up to the possibility of losing their star man for nothing, with Barcelona eyeing a potential deal

Barcelona are reportedly open to signing Wilfried Zaha after being ‘offered’ the chance to negotiate with the Crystal Palace winger.

Zaha’s current deal with Palace is due to expire next summer and he will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from January 1. Barcelona have been mooted to have held an interest in the 29-year-old in recent times, but have opted against making a move due to the size of the transfer fee required to prise him from Selhurst Park.

But with Zaha set to be a free agent in June, the Catalan club could now be set to revive their interest ahead of next season, amid claims the Ivorian international wants to test himself in Spain. While Palace are desperate to keep their star man, the prospect of losing him for nothing could also open the door to them considering a potential cut-price transfer in January, albeit reluctantly.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona are seriously considering signing Zaha if the total package involved in securing a deal is ‘affordable’. There are still a number of financial restrictions being navigated by Barca due to their troublesome economic situation, but it did not stop them from splashing the cash on new transfers in the summer.
